For over 40 years I have reported from all over the world and met many amazing people. Much of my work was broadcast on BBC Radio 4, Radio 5 Live, The World Service and National Public Radio in America.
I have hundreds of old tapes, reel to reel, cassettes and digital. I've blown off the dust and played some again. They are in no order but tell stories, capture events and provide insight into the past. I hope you enjoy this random selection of my work. Champions was a series I presented and produced on BBC Radio 4 in 1996. Six episodes telling a different story of individual champions who overcame difficulty to win. Gambling amongst the young is a growing problem and in the 1990's there was surprise when the UK government decided to allow slot machines to payout more prizes in cash. In the state system, school grounds are often bleak places but not at Easterside Primary in Middlesbrough, where the pupils have worked with local artist Anthony Holloway to create a wonderful sculpture to enhance the area. In rural communities police numbers were being cut in the 1990's and some residents in Lapworth Warwickshire decided to pay towards the cost of extra officers for their area. It was a great pleasure to interview civil rights campaigner Samuel Lacy in 1998.
Sam fought for integration in sport and knew it would lead to social change across America and the world. I met him twice in Baltimore. He was so friendly and knowledgeable. He told of the 1920's and his struggle for equality.
